His healing was quite different from modern medicine. But he healed many people. The common feature of his healing was touching his hand on affected body parts, and giving words. In other words, he tried to have relations with those alienated people by touching them and giving his words to them. Those who were physically and spiritually handicapped were afflicted not only with their disease but also with alienation from ordinary people. Situations of touching or speaking seen in ordinary society were unavailable to them. People generally believed that their suffering was owing to their sins and their ancestors’ sins, and their suffering was God’s punishment. Those who suffered also had the same idea. Further, people thought that contact with those handicapped would catch them in the same sins. This is similar to present day damage caused by rumors. So alienating situations were formed. Therefore, Jesus' healing was to restore normal relations as well as getting rid of disease. It was to emancipate people from prejudice or the selfish judgments of people by people.
